They call us a generation of self-involved narcissists, probably because our generation is all about the SELF, self-improving, self-evolving, self-love, self-care, self everything. And while this baffles the hack out of our ancestors, seeing it from our point of view, it seems like mastering the self equals mastering the recipe for happiness. And since it seems like we’ve become the creators of our own faith, the question still remains what is it about self revelation that makes us so happy. If you ask me, it’s never the destination of actually reaching the content, but the journey itself and how you transform yourself with every new culture you discover through traveling, being constantly curious and the ability to take risks our parents were never able to. These things alter our perspectives and challenge our core beliefs, therefore playing a crucial role in our personal growth.

I love people who constantly make an effort to evolve and grow, mostly because they can teach you many things about life, but more important than that they have this positive vibe about them that challenges you to do and be better. Daniel Spasovski, an e-commerce senior java developer for a Software Consultancy Agency in Dortmund, is one of these cheerful people whose positive energy made him a joy to have around. He was recently working from Coffice on his latest project for a customer based in London, so for the latest edition of Coffice stories he shares his journey, expertise and experience with Coffice.

COFFICE: Tell us a bit your journey. Who you are and what you do?

DS: My journey started in Skopje, Macedonia, where I was born and where I went to school. However, the idea of better education and the opportunity of a better career path led me to Dortmund, Germany, where I studied computer science at the TU Dortmund.

Currently I’m working as an e-commerce Senior Java Developer for a Software Consultancy Agency in Dortmund, KPS digital. There we develop B2C and B2B Shops in Java/JEE, Spring, e-commerce (SAP Hybris), and PIM technologies. The project I am currently remotely working on from the offices in Dortmund is for a customer in London, so I saw this as an opportunity for “work and travel” in different nice offices, starting in Coffice in Skopje. The idea was to experience what it would be like to work and live for a month in my hometown and not just be a “tourist in Skopje”. One of the other reasons was also to see if I could be able to work remotely and be as productive as working within a company. The answer: Yes, yes I can. Even better and I am more motivated than working in the same office for 8h a day, 5 days a week, 250 days a year …

The journey doesn’t stop here. If everything works out fine, next stop would be London, then Lisbon, Porto, Hamburg, Cologne … the goal is networking, getting to know people from different work fields and getting inspiration for my future projects.

COFFICE: Where do you get your inspiration from?

DS: Usually when I go for a walk or jogging, I get ideas on how to improve my life/work … Also deadlines. Deadlines are inspiring too. Actually, that is when the Panic Monster wakes up.

COFFICE: Who has influenced your work the most?

DS: I would say a very good friend of mine, while we were working and studying for exams together. I learned a lot about work ethics from him. Also a big impact on my work and way of thinking were/are a lot of self-improvement books and the internet.

COFFICE: Proudest moment to date…

DS: Finishing school, finding a good job, running a half marathon (next goal is a marathon), making the world a better place by being an example — using turn signals in traffic, for example … even on an empty street and a parking lot *smiley face*. Pride is a good thing to have, but I try not to overdose on it.

COFFICE: Best advice you’ve ever received.

DS: To never go “full retard”. Bad joke aside, best advices were to “work smart, not hard” and “don’t take everything so seriously”.

COFFICE: Personal motto

DS: That which is hateful to you, do not do to others.

COFFICE: Experience with Coffice

DS: It’s relatively quiet and very nice place! It has everything you need for your daily work. Its location is perfect. There are many cafés and restaurants nearby where one can take a break, go and eat, drink coffee. I liked it working there a lot!

So it seems like being a generation of self-involved individuals is not so bad after all. Better yet, by dedicating ourselves to our constant evolution, our generation seems to have unlocked the secret to a happy and balanced life, something our parents generation seems to know so little about. So instead of mocking those who are dedicated to finding out what makes them happy, by calling them selfish narcissists, we need to take one long look in the mirror and ask ourselves, what is it that brings our soul content and start working on it.

If you liked this story, there are plenty more to follow. Make sure you don’t miss our journey and follow us across our social media or sign up for our newsletters. We will never disappoint. That much we can promise.
